Clinton County, IL Boy Scout Electronic Recycling Drive

Great opportunity to rid yourself of unused electronics and help Troop 281
Carlyle, IL Boy Scout Troop 281 has a Electronic Recycling Drive Scheduled for Saturday, March 31. The location is the Carlyle City Pool Parking Lot on Lake Road. Do not throw your old electronics away, instead “donate” them to the Boy Scouts for recycling.

The Boy Scouts will be at the Carlyle City Pool Parking Lot on Lake Road in Carlyle between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. to accept your recycled electronics. Junk items to be accepted include computers, keyboards, monitors, external drives, printers, scanners, copiers, adding machines, televisions, radios, and anything else that has a cord attached. The Boy Scouts will also accept your aluminum cans.

In particular, this is an excellent opportunity to get rid of old computer monitors and television which should never just be thrown away due to the hazaradous waste they contain. Instead of paying to throw this stuff away, just give it to the Boy Scouts. Electronics do not need to be working either! What a deal!
Money raised from the recycled items will benefit costs for Boy Scout summer camps.

Take your date out for a seafood dinner!
I seldom focus on chain retailers here, but what the heck, a deal is a deal. If you a not adverse to fat, sodium, carbohydrates or unidentified fish, this is bound to be a tasty, budget treat. The link goes to Arby’s corporate site and you must print a coupon. They do ask for your name, but surely you can be creative! In any case, the deal is for a fish sandwich and curly fries for $2.99. I figure that is about $1 off of the combo they usually sell with a drink for $5. Fill your water bottle up before leaving home and you a cool.

The Prize

Benefit for Braxton Cope Greenville Illinois VFW

When: January 29, 2012 4pm
Where: Greenville, Illinois VFW
Address: 2043 S. 4th Greenville, IL 62246
For More Info: 618-664-9172

Braxton deployed on three tours in Iraq. He was exposed to depleted uranium and now has a terminal brain tumor. Plus, in the past year he has taken custody of three young children under the age of four, and one is just six weeks old.

Event will include a chili dinner benefit, dance and silent auction to support Braxton Cope a Citizen, Hero, Soldier and father. There will be a silent auction as well. Chapman Brothers will be entertaining. Please bring a covered dish! Dessert, water, tea and coffee to be provided.

Braxton is a true American hero – serving his country. Let us all honor his sacrifice. If you can’t attend the benefit, there is a number you can call to donate or just contact Randy Alderman at Bradford National Bank, 618-664-2200, and he will had deliver your contribution (Braxton is his neighbor). Thank you all for your consideration.

Braxton Cope is just one example of many that will be needing additional assistance with health issues after service to this nation. You don’t have to agree with any war agenda, just understand that duty is above agenda and those inclined to serve deserve our help.

In regards to depleted uranium, this is going to be a challenging health issue for many of our returning soldier-heroes.

It is likely this Citizen Solider was exposed to depleted uranium from shells used in the A-10 Warthog’s 30mm cannon and those shells fired by M-1 tanks. This heavy, radioactive metal shatters armor effectively. Unfortunately a downside is that these shells basically turn to fragments and powder upon contact with targets.

This is especially the case for the A-10′s 30mm gatling gun ammo. Whether the high speed shells hit a tank, personnel carrier, building or miss, the resulting impact turns part of the shell into dust that is hard, if not impossible to clean up. So solider and civilian alike can be exposed to high levels of radioactive dust that is easily stirred up by wind, traffic, and whatever gets dust into the air.

Cancer cases will increase among our troops due to exposure to depleted uranium. If there ever is a case to increase the health care resources of our soldiers, this is a massive one. For more information on how depleted uranium waste affects humans, Google “Balkans, depleted uranium, cancer”. Many of our troops face similar ticking time bombs as did our Vietnam veterans, only this time the poison is different.
